Edinburgh International Science Festival 2013:

The Secret Life of Coral

The Secret Life of Coral explored the creatures thriving on coral reef in Scottish waters.

I was commissioned to design a making process and instructions for 5 creatures for children and families to create at the National Museum during the festival.

The creatures were to be made easily and quickly while demonstrating both the appearance and the key biological features of the animals intended for learning.

The creatures were: Cold water coral (Lophelia pertusa) , Phosphorescent Sea Pens (Pennatula phosphorea), Northern Feather Stars (Leptometra celtica), Orange Cushion Stars (Asterina burtoni), and the Squat Lobster (Gastroptychus formosus)

I followed this on with new and revised creatures for when the EISF travelled to Dubai later in the year.

For these, school group settings, I created a  Blue Swimmer Crab (Portunus pelagicus),  Pearl Oyster (Pinctada radiata),  and Shrimp Goby (Cryptocentrus lutheri)
